On December 3, CHN Energy Longyuan Power completed the first turbine installation for the Haiyuan 1-GW wind power project in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The project is currently the largest single-unit wind farm under planning and construction in the region.

Located in Haiyuan County, Zhongwei City, the project is part of the Tengger renewable energy base in desert areas, the Gobi, and other arid areas and serves as a supporting project for the Ningxia-to-Hunan ultra-high-voltage transmission line. It is designed to install 140 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 7.15 MW. The turbines feature a hub height of 125 meters and a rotor diameter of 220 meters, representing the largest turbine model currently used in wind power projects across Ningxia.
Given the local loess-plateau geology, low winter temperatures and high wind speeds, the construction contractor coordinated with design, equipment and supervision teams to formulate a dedicated installation plan. The lifting operation employed a multidimensional monitoring system that integrated aerial drones, high-altitude surveillance platforms and ground-based monitoring to oversee the entire transportation and hoisting process of major components.
With a planned installed capacity of 1 GW, the project is expected to generate about 2.06 billion kWh annually once operational. Its power output will be transmitted to the Hunan provincial grid via the Ningxia-to-Hunan transmission project. The project also provides valuable engineering experience for developing large-scale wind power projects in desert areas, the Gobi, and other arid areas.
