CHN Energy’s Poverty Reduction Case was awarded Global Best Practice at the 2025 International Seminar on Global Poverty Reduction Partnerships held on December 10.
The case, titled “Synergy Delivering Triple Benefits: CHN Energy’s Poverty Reduction Practice in Ecologically Fragile Areas of the Loess Plateau”, stood out among 840 submissions worldwide in the 6th Call of Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices Campaign.
Since 2002, CHN Energy has provided targeted assistance to Mizhi County in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, with cumulative support funding totaling 192 million yuan (around 27.24 million US dollars). The county was removed from the national list of poverty-stricken counties in 2019, with more than 60,000 residents benefiting directly from these efforts.
To consolidate poverty alleviation gains, the Group has innovatively implemented three flagship projects in Mizhi County—Gaoxigou agrivoltaics, Yangjiagou pastoral photovoltaics, and the Thousand Villages Photovoltaic Demonstration program—forming a coordinated model that integrates agriculture, animal husbandry and household photovoltaics. With total investment of 38 million yuan (around 5.39 million US dollars), the projects have built photovoltaic stations with a combined capacity of 7.2 megawatts, covering four townships and five administrative villages. Through a circular mechanism of power generation above, farming and breeding below, and income reinvestment, the projects have enabled five village collectives to increase their average annual income by more than 150,000 yuan (around 21,280.95 US dollars) each and provided sustained income for 165 formerly impoverished households.
The Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices Campaign is jointly launched by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and other institutions to gather and share poverty reduction practices worldwide. In this edition, CHN Energy’s case was selected for its effective practice in ecologically fragile areas of the Loess Plateau. Previously, the Group had cases selected in the third and fourth editions, bringing the total number of its cases included in the international repository to four. All awarded cases will be incorporated into the Global Poverty Reduction Inclusive Growth Portal on Poverty Reduction for global reference and learning.
