Recently, the scientific achievement “Recycling Technology and Engineering Demonstration of Retired Wind Turbine Blades” by CHN Energy Longyuan Power Liaoning Branch was appraised by the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering as having reached internationally advanced levels overall. Supported by the Group’s scientific project on the harmless recovery and resource utilization of new energy solid waste, the project was initiated by Longyuan Power, in collaboration with its Liaoning branch, CHN Energy Longyuan Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., and Longyuan Power Engineering Technology Company.
Aiming to meet the demand for large-scale recycling of retired wind blades, the project developed a digital management platform and key technologies such as adaptive high-efficiency cutting, mechanical crushing, recycling formulations and processing techniques. To date, it has applied for 14 invention patents, published 9 technical papers, and compiled 4 technical standards. The appraisal committee recognized the innovation and practicality of the results, noting that the fine powder-coarse powder double-layer molding technology for recycled products has reached the internationally advanced level.
A demonstration project in Faku County, Liaoning Province, has been established with an annual processing capacity of 1,000 tons of retired wind blades, resulting in a complete software and process package. This technology offers a replicable solution for addressing the challenges of retiring large-scale wind power equipment.
Moving forward, Longyuan Power Liaoning Branch will leverage this technological achievement to meet the blade recycling demands from projects of replacing smaller old turbines with larger new ones, carry out commercial operational verification, and provide technical support for the sustainable development of the wind power industry.
